What Is AquaFilter?

AquaFilter is a disposable cigarette holder with a water-moistened filtration design. A cigarette fits into one end of the holder, while the opposite end serves as the mouthpiece.

The AquaFilter design is associated with historical cigarette-holder patents describing fibrous filter material impregnated with water. Before use, the filter must be moistened according to the product instructions.

Oakhurst Company manufactures and distributes AquaFilter and owns the AquaFilter brand. This page provides the product description, package options, pricing, and preparation instructions directly from Oakhurst.

How AquaFilter Works

AquaFilter uses a wet-filtration design with water-moistened filter material inside a separate cigarette holder.

1. Cigarette insertion: A cigarette fits into the receiving end of the holder.

2. Water-moistened filter: Smoke passes through the holder's internal filter material.

3. Mouthpiece: Smoke travels through the holder toward the mouthpiece.

Historical patent documentation describes related designs using water-impregnated fibrous filter material. This explains the design, but does not establish a specific rate of tar or nicotine reduction for the product currently sold.

Important: AquaFilter does not make smoking safe or eliminate the health risks associated with cigarette smoke.

How to Use Your AquaFilter

Prepare each AquaFilter according to these product instructions before use.

1. Remove the large blue plug. Remove the large plug at the end of the filter.

2. Remove the key plug. Snap off the key plug at the mouthpiece end of the filter.

3. Moisten the filter with water. Hold the large end of the filter under running water, then blow out the excess water. If the original moisture has evaporated, the AquaFilter can be re-moistened in the same way.

4. Insert the cigarette. Insert a cigarette into the filter and twist slightly to obtain a firm fit.

Each AquaFilter is intended for use with one pack of cigarettes. Follow any additional directions printed on the product packaging.

The History of AquaFilter

AquaFilter is associated with historical cigarette-holder designs developed by Aquafilter Corporation. U.S. patent records from the 1970s document cigarette holders incorporating fibrous filter material impregnated with water.

Relevant historical patents include:

• U.S. Patent 3,797,644 – Filter, published March 19, 1974.

• U.S. Patent 4,003,387 – Cigarette Filter Holder, published January 18, 1977.

• U.S. Patent 4,046,153 – Cigarette Holder, published September 6, 1977.

These patent records identify Aquafilter Corporation as the assignee of the historical inventions. They provide context for the development of the water-moistened cigarette-holder design but do not establish current patent ownership or independently verify the performance of the product currently sold.

Today, Oakhurst Company identifies itself as the manufacturer and distributor of AquaFilter and the owner of the AquaFilter brand.
